It’s that time of year again;
football season is over, the weather
is warming up, boats are going to
the yard, so let’s go fishing!
The 2011 Cajun Canyons Billfish
Classic is just around the corner;
our dates are May 31 through June 5,
2011. This year, we will be
utilizing both
Venice Marina and
Cypress Cove Marina, with tournament
headquarters located at the newly
refurbished Cypress Cove Marina and
Lodge, under the new ownership of
Rene Cross with long-time harbor
master, Mike Ballay still with him.
We have decided to maintain our
lower entry fee, $1250.00 (if paid
prior to April 1, 2011) and have
expanded our Optional Entries to
include $500.00, $1000.00, $2000.00,
$3000.00, and $5000.00
levels—something for everybody to
play and win more money.
Additionally, boats may depart from
any Gulf of Mexico port, but must
video their departure with a time
and date stamp—please video your GPS
screen showing both time and
location.
Starting Tuesday, May 31, our dock
party will be hosted by Cypress Cove
Marina, with food provided by the
new Harbor Seafood and Oyster Bar at
Cypress Cove. Lots of great Cajun
food, adult beverages, and in
general, a good ole time should be
had by all. Come early, your taste
buds will be glad you did.
Tournament registration is
Wednesday, June 1, from 2:00 pm
until 7:00 pm, immediately followed
by our Kick-Off Party. Yes, the good
people at
Acme Oyster House will be
serving loads of their wonderful
food along with that world-famous
bread pudding---a feast not to be
missed! Every year, Acme tries to
outdo themselves---and their food
just keeps getting better and
better—don’t miss it.
Thursday, June 2, will see our
annual Hangover Clinic with Bloody
Mary’s and strong coffee for those
that had too much fun at our
Kick-Off Party. Yes, the spicy
TABASCO™ Bloody Mary mix will be on
hand to add a little kick to your
step.
Boats may depart any Gulf port,
Thursday, June 2 at 4:00 pm, with
fishing starting at 12:01 am Friday
morning and continuing until 4:00
pm, Saturday, June 4. Boats must be
inside the cut to Cypress Cove
Marina and checked in via radio no
later than 7:00 pm, Saturday, June 4
to return release videos or weigh-in
fish.
Saturday, June 4, we will again host
our “after-fishing party” with even
more wonderful food from Acme Oyster
House, loads of adult beverages, and
a general good time to relax, have
fun, and tell fish stories.
Sunday morning, June 5, we will be
presenting BIG checks, UPGRADED
trophies and of course, our
signature TABASCO Bloody Mary’s.
Strong coffee will also be available
for those in need.
We would like to thank both our new
and returning sponsors and ask you
to please support them as they truly
offer the best products and services
available.
This year marks our 5th year as a
qualifying event for the
I.G.F.A.
Offshore World Championship with our
Top Boat (Based on total Billfish
Points) receiving an invitation to
fish against teams from around the
world in this classic event.
Our 2011
Entry Forms are available
online and now is the time to get
your entry in prior to April 1 and
be eligible to win a free entry fee.
Also, please remember that slip
reservations can only be made with a
paid entry form. If you have fished
our tournament in the past, you know
about the good times in Venice; if
you have not fished our tournament,
come join the party in Venice!
Looking forward to seeing you on the
docks in Venice,
Steve Thomas
