Acme Oyster House joins the party in Venice! We are excited to welcome Acme
Oyster House as a new sponsor of the Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic. Founded
in 1910 and winner of numerous local, national, and international awards, the world-famous
Acme Oyster House will be doing the catering for both our Kick-Off Party, Wednesday
May 30 and our Awards Party, Saturday, June 2. Please bring your appetite!
Now, let’s talk about our 3rd annual Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic, May 29—June 2,
2007, again presented by our good friends at Gulf
Coast Hatteras and Hatteras Yachts.
Our Early Bird Entry deadline is rapidly approaching. Get your Entry
Form in now, before May 1 to be eligible for our Early Bird Drawing and a chance
to win back your Entry Fee.
Looks like the big boys are coming back to Venice as the 80’ S/F Patriot has
made the journey from Cabo San Lucas to the American
Custom Yachts yard and will be hitting the coast of Louisiana shortly. Welcome
back to God’s Country.
Tuesday night, May 29, our dock Party will be hosted by the Butler Brothers of Venice
Marina at the newly opened “FISH TALES” bar and grill.
During both registration and our Captain’s Meeting, Louisiana
Wildlife and Fisheries and the Recreational
Fisheries Research Institute will be conducting a socio-economic impact study
on the Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic. It’s a lot simpler than it sounds: a 1 page
form, front and back that should be very simple to complete. We ask that you give
realistic answers as this will help both our tournament, Venice, and the state of
Louisiana gather important data on sportfishing.
Our Official Artist, Mr. Steve Goione has
supplied us with some lovely remarqued and signed prints that our 1st Place winners
are sure to enjoy. This year will also mark the return of the wonderful TABASCO
gift buckets for all our Base entry winners, including our Top Youth Angler, Top Female
Angler and Top Billfish Boat—thanks go out to all our friends on Avery Island.
As in our 2 previous years, we will start on Tuesday, May 29, with our Dock Party,
followed by our Registration Day, Wednesday, May 30, the same day as our Captains
Meeting and Kick-Off Party. Wednesday evening is also the night of our Charity Auction,
benefiting CCA Louisiana and The
Billfish Foundation. Look for some wonderful artwork from various marine
artists, some more rock’ n roll memorabilia, 4 tickets to a Saints game in a
box suite, various items from both The Billfish Foundation and CCA, loads of
fishing tackle, and some laughable surprises that should be a lot of fun for everyone.
Thursday, June 1, Dave Ferrell, Editor of Marlin
Magazine, and one of the founders of Marlin University, will be
conducting a natural bait rigging seminar, in and around the Hatteras Hangover
Clinic. Come do a taste test of those famous TABASCO Bloody Mary’s and see how the
pro’s rig ballyhoo and mackerel.
Remember, get your 2007 Entry
Form in early and don’t be left out; the fishing is still great off the coast
of Louisiana and the party IS IN VENICE! Please support our Sponsors, a literal who’s
who of companies: THE BEST of THE BEST.
On a closing note, we are pleased to inform all of you that Tiger Pass, South Pass,
and Baptiste Collette have all been dredged and remarked. As far as the fishing reports
go, 2 really nice swordfish hit the docks this week, along with numerous Blue Marlin
tagged last weekend, while the tuna bite with live bait has been incredible.
See you in Venice,
Steve Thomas
