February 2007 Newsletter
Published by comefishLa.com, Inc.
Attention Tournament Anglers, Friends, and Fishermen:
Well, it has been a little while since we published a newsletter, but here we go with
some of the latest and greatest news from South Louisiana.
First and foremost, our office reconstruction is almost finished; thank goodness.
It has been an interesting year with destroyed files, files in PODS, files in storage,
etc.
I would like to personally thank our 2005 participants and especially our 2006 participants;
many people did not think we could pull off a tournament in 2006 after Katrina and
Rita. A BIG thanks to YOU, our sponsors, and our Tournament Committee for all their
hard work; remember, the show must go on and it did.
Secondly, let’s talk about fishing!
The Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic is pleased to announce we have been chosen as a
qualifying event for the IGFA/Rolex Offshore
World Championship. The World Championship normally takes place during the end
of May; therefore, our Top Tag/Release Team will qualify for the 2008 event.
Tiger Pass has been dredged and re-marked, along with South Pass; this is GREAT NEWS.
The fishing off the mouth of the Mississippi River continuing to Mississippi Canyon
and Green Canyon has been very good, even into the fall. I am curious to see what
the Winter Tuna bite does at the Midnight Lump; hopefully it will be a good winter
for our tuna fishing friends, as there were many fish in and around 200 lbs.
caught this past year.
Now, let’s talk about our 3rd annual Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic, May 29—June 2,
2007, again presented by our good friends at Gulf
Coast Hatteras and Hatteras Yachts.
We will be returning to the updated and improved Venice
Marina thanks to the hard work by the Butler Brothers. Our goal for 2007
is to make our 3rd annual Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic the BIGGEST &
BEST YET. Don’t be left out, come join the party in historic Venice,
Louisiana.
As in our 2 previous years, we will start on Tuesday, May 29, with our Dock Party,
followed by our Registration Day, Wednesday, May 30, the same day as our Captains
Meeting and Kick-Off Party. Also, look for the return of our Oyster Bar during the
Awards Party on Saturday night; it was a hit last year and promises to be bigger and
better this year. Please visit our website at www.comefishLa.com for
a 2007 Tournament Schedule along
with 2007 Entry Forms.
Remember; get your entry in early for more chances to win in our Early Bird Drawing.
We have some exciting Sponsor news with Cabo Yachts,
in conjunction with Gulf Coast Hatteras,
joining our “best of the best” sponsor list. Also, our good friends down the
bayou at Southern Scrap Recycling have joined
forces with Founding Sponsor LeBeouf Brothers Towing to sponsor our Kick-Off Party,
May 30, 2007. Please stay tuned for some more exciting sponsor news in our next
newsletter.
On a closing note, one of our Founding Sponsors, Mr. C. R. “Bob” Potter of Area
Wholesale Tire (S/F Roadrunner III) passed away on June 9, 2006.
As a tribute of honor, the new C.R. “Bob” Potter Memorial Trophy will be awarded
to the Top Billfish Boat. Mr. Potter’s congeniality, smile, and quick wit will
surely be missed by all that had the pleasure to know him or fish with him.
Remember, get your 2007 Entry Form in early and don’t be left out; the fishing is
still great off the coast of Louisiana and the party IS IN VENICE! Please support
our Sponsors, a literal who’s who of companies: THE BEST of THE BEST.
See you in Venice,
Steve Thomas
