Attention Tournament Anglers,
Friends, and Fishermen:
Here we are, not even April yet
and the Billfish are showing up!!!
Numerous Blue Marlin have been
raised to the East, specifically,
Devil’s Tower, along with Mars and
even as far west as Green Canyon
205—YAHOO. Also, we have seen Bull
Dolphin hit the dock already, along
with numerous 80 pound plus Wahoo.
It should be a good season.
NEWSFLASH:
“National Marine Fisheries
Service (NMFS) proposes to suspend
existing regulations that require
Atlantic Billfish tournament
participants who are fishing from an
HMS permitted vessel and deploying
natural bait or natural
bait/artificial lure combinations to
use non-offset circle hooks through
December 31, 2007.
In a nutshell, NMFS is proposing
to NOT require circle hooks in
Billfish tournaments through
December 31, 2007 and is opening
this proposed suspension for public
comment through March 30. As a
multi-species tournament director
and angler, I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE
RULE ITSELF. Please take 5 minutes
and click on this link and by all
means, telephone and or email
National Marine Fisheries Service
and voice your opinion for
suspending the circle hook rule:

Now, let’s talk about our 3rd
annual Cajun Canyons Billfish
Classic, May 29—June 2, 2007, again
presented by our good friends at
Gulf Coast Hatteras and
Hatteras
Yachts. We will be returning to the
updated and improved
Venice Marina,
thanks to the hard work by the
Butler Brothers. Our goal for 2007
is to make our 3rd annual Cajun
Canyons Billfish Classic the BIGGEST
& BEST YET. Don’t be left out, come
join the party in historic Venice,
Louisiana. Come join the likes of
the new Tenacious (defending
Tag/Release Champion & Top Billfish
Boat 2006 ), Pass-It-On,
Hydrocarbon, Big Adventure (1st
Place Blue Marlin at Emerald Coast
Classic at Sandestin 2006), Share-E,
Stalker, Junkyard Dog, the
new Done
Deal, Reel Addiction (1st Place
Tag/Release Sandestin 2006),
Mariposa, Southern Cross, to name a
few. Remember, get your
Entry Form
in before May 1 to be eligible for
our Early Bird Drawing. Just ask the
crew of the Tenacious, they won it
last year and won $5,000.00 before
they even left the dock.
As in our 2 previous years, we
will start on Tuesday, May 29, with
our Dock Party, followed by our
Registration Day, Wednesday, May 30,
the same day as our Captains Meeting
and Kick-Off Party. Wednesday
evening is also the night of our
Charity Auction, benefiting
CCA
Louisiana and
The Billfish
Foundation. Also, look for the
return of our Oyster Bar during the
Awards Party on Saturday night; it
was a hit last year and promises to
be bigger and better this year.
Please visit our website at
www.comefishLa.com for a 2007
Tournament Schedule along with 2007
Entry Forms.
Thursday, June 1, Dave Ferrell,
Editor of Marlin Magazine, and one
of the founders of Marlin
University, will be conducting a
natural bait rigging seminar, in and
around the
Hatteras Hangover Clinic.
Come do a taste test of those famous
TABASCO Bloody Mary’s and see how
the pro’s rig ballyhoo and mackerel.
On a closing note, one of our
Founding Sponsors, Mr. C. R. “Bob”
Potter of
Area Wholesale Tire (S/F
Roadrunner III) passed away on June
9, 2006. As a tribute of honor, the
new C.R. “Bob” Potter Memorial
Trophy will be awarded to the Top
Billfish Boat. Mr. Potter’s
congeniality, smile, and quick wit
will surely be missed by all that
had the pleasure to know him or fish
with him.
Remember, get your 2007 Entry
Form in early and don’t be left out;
the fishing is still great off the
coast of Louisiana and the party IS
IN VENICE! Please support our
Sponsors, a literal who’s who of
companies: THE BEST of THE BEST.
See you in Venice,
Steve Thomas
